WELCOME TO THE READING ROOM!
Leif Parsons
"It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." ~Oscar Wilde
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read".
~Attributed to Groucho Marx
"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested." ~Francis Bacon
Oscar Wilde, late 19th c. Irish author suggests that our leisure picks reveal our truest selves, while 20th c. comic film legend, Groucho Marx humorously states what's true for many of us "book lovers" (who--btw--often read in the dark anyway!!). But it's the 16th c. philosopher, Francis Bacon who most succinctly captured the variety of ways we will encounter the written word throughout our reading adventures this year.
This is our 10P Reading Room where you will find all kinds of articles, book reviews, and other recommended material to read. Some selections will be directly related to our course, and others will simply expand your thinking or provoke your curiosity. Throughout the year, I will welcome your submissions and additions. Right now, find here some intriguing articles and browse the amazing READING ROOM 2011--2012, courtesy of your 10P predecessors.
Also notice that our conversations may already begin! Share your thoughts about anything you read here or have been reading this summer on our Reading Room Blog.
